Noémie Déom

TRL’s multidisciplinary team provides an inclusive space where ideas can bounce around to grow into solid projects. Besides being locally run, TRL’s emphasis on ethical design and context-sensitivity makes it a unique NGO to work with. It is the ideal place to develop transferable skills while contributing to thoughtful environmental development projects.

Carlos Gustavo Rodriguez Ruiz

Guatemala is a colorful country plentiful of natural and cultural resources and many social challenges, as well. TRL is a dynamic organization that has proven successful within this complex -yet fascinating- environment offering an invaluable opportunity to young professionals seeking to grow their expertise in generating sustainable impact amidst a highly diverse ecosystem.

Alex Shur

TRL taught me the importance of grassroots work and the inevitability of positive change when an organization cares for its community. It also helped me rekindle my love for writing, leading to my current profession in journalism.

Timothey May

I was attracted to TRL for their uniquely contextualised approach to the environmental crisis. Unlike many other NGOs, TRL does not seek to impose its ideas, but rather aims to build a deeper and more participatory relationship of reciprocity with Indigenous communities. TRL gave me the opportunity to collaborate with other like-minded individuals in a creative and positive environment. This rich experience directly led me to my current job working for another environmental NGO based in Guatemala.

Ava Scott

My experience as a PiLA Fellow at TRL taught me about the heart and drive behind true, community-led grassroots development. Despite the fact organizations like TRL are often best-equipped to tackle complex environmental challenges and climate injustice, it seemed that there were forces (policy-related or otherwise) that posed systemic barriers to progress for organizations like TRL. Consequently, I decided on Law as my path forward. TRL played a fundamental role in shaping this aspiration of mine.

Tamara Winter Nelson

Tamara Winter Nelson, 60, hails from Wisconsin but found her home in Boulder, Colorado, where she lived in a mountain house heated solely with wood for many years. During her volunteer work with various fuel-efficient wood stoves in Honduras and Guatemala, she took a break to visit friends in Santiago Atitlan. It was there that she was introduced to Candice, Cameroon, Isa, and the TRL project. Tamara finds immense gratification in witnessing the numerous ways in which the Onil stoves enhance lives.
