We are quickly heading toward the end of the holiday season, but are you still undecided about those last holiday gifts? Does everyone you know seem to have everything? In November Tui’k Ruch’Lew made 100 carbon credits available for sale to individuals for the very first time. The sale of a carbon credit does more than offset a ton of carbon emissions. Each carbon credit helps Tui’k Ruch’Lew continue its program of reducing emissions and supporting sustainable development in Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala.
We still have some carbon credits left, so you can take climate action now while making a meaningful gift to that last someone on your holiday list. For only $50, you can help that person offset 1 ton of CO2 emissions from their commute to work or their trip to Europe next summer. Your support not only helps limit global warming, but help us install more energy efficient cookstoves in the homes of needy families.
Give away a carbon offset!
The easiest way to offset your carbon footprint is to donate to our cookstove project on Global Giving and leave a note that you want to offset your carbon footprint. Or get in touch with me to make your carbon offset a reality. Tui’k Ruch’Lew will provide you with a carbon offset certificate that you can tuck into a holiday card.
How much do you want to offset?
$50 – ONE tons of CO2 emissions is equivalent to a 3,000-mile round-trip flight for one passenger (e.g. Boston to London and back).
$100 – TWO tons of CO2 emissions is equivalent to the average American carbon footprint for food. Those emissions come from the animals and plants we grow for food, the transportation of food in carbon-emitting trucks and ships, and the greenhouse gases emitted when uneaten food decomposes.
$800 – 16 tons of CO2 emissions is equivalent to the annual CO2 emission of an average American. Among other activities, electricity generation, the production of products and services, the provision of infrastructure and building materials are taken into account.
For those of you who may not know, Tui’k Ruch’Lew is certified by Verra to trade on the voluntary carbon market. Our carbon credits are priced to cover the cost of eliminating a ton of CO2 while subsidizing the cost of installation and correct use of a clean cookstove. Despite the challenges of this past year, we’re all trying to reduce our carbon footprint. Recognizing that COP 26 won’t be bringing the results we had hoped for, we are facing the fact that We the People must do our part to make a real difference. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY.
